A Yankee bet contains 11 separately staked combinations of four selections. A Lucky 15 buys those combinations plus a single on each selection, so it costs 15 units. Entering 20p per bet therefore means £2.20 for the Yankee or £3 for the Lucky 15, not a 20p total ticket.
The extra singles can produce a payment when only one selection wins. They also cost money on every ticket, including one where all four selections lose. A return from one surviving line does not establish that the ticket recovered its full outlay.
This guide helps readers reconcile a multiple-bet receipt. The worked prices and results are fictional, with cash funding and ordinary win-only settlement on separate eligible events. Named operator documents were checked on 22 October 2026; their availability and terms are not a promise that either product is offered in every country.
The Yankee's 11 bets and the Lucky 15's four additions
Label the four selections A, B, C and D. There are six distinct pairs, four groups of three and one group containing all four. The Yankee purchases each of those 11 combinations once. It contains no A-only, B-only, C-only or D-only bet.
Betfair's bet-type reference identifies that structure and defines Lucky 15 as the version with four singles included. A double needs its two selections to succeed; the corresponding requirement is three for a treble and four for the fourfold. An ordinary losing selection defeats a line containing it, but does not affect separately funded lines that leave it out.
The three-selection equivalents have different counts. Our Trixie and Patent explanation covers those four- and seven-bet tickets. Adding a fourth selection to a Yankee calculation is not simply adding one extra stake to a Trixie.
Check whether the amount is per bet or for the whole ticket
Sky Bet's definitions explain that the unit amount is multiplied by the number of component bets. For a uniform win-only unit u, the cost is 11u for Yankee and 15u for Lucky 15. At 20p, adding the four singles increases the debit by 80p. At £1, the two ticket totals are £11 and £15.
An equal unit is a different comparison from an equal budget. A fictional £3.30 total can fund 30p on each Yankee line or 22p on each Lucky 15 line. In that comparison, the Lucky 15's shared doubles, trebles and fourfold each carry less money. Its additional singles do not make its total return automatically higher.
A digital or printed receipt should identify the bet type, accepted unit, funded components and final total. If an interface takes a whole-ticket budget instead, use the unit it actually allocates. Do not multiply a displayed total by 11 or 15 a second time.
All 15 combinations, with a 20p worked return
Set the invented decimal prices at A 2.50, B 3.00, C 4.00 and D 5.00. Multiply the 20p line stake by every price on a successful line. For example, ABD returns £0.20 × 2.50 × 3.00 × 5.00 = £7.50 if all three win. Decimal returns include the stake on that winning line.
| Funded component | Ticket containing it | Return if that line wins |
|---|---|---|
| A single | Lucky 15 only | £0.50 |
| B single | Lucky 15 only | £0.60 |
| C single | Lucky 15 only | £0.80 |
| D single | Lucky 15 only | £1.00 |
| AB double | Both | £1.50 |
| AC double | Both | £2.00 |
| AD double | Both | £2.50 |
| BC double | Both | £2.40 |
| BD double | Both | £3.00 |
| CD double | Both | £4.00 |
| ABC treble | Both | £6.00 |
| ABD treble | Both | £7.50 |
| ACD treble | Both | £10.00 |
| BCD treble | Both | £12.00 |
| ABCD fourfold | Both | £30.00 |
With all four successful, the six doubles return £15.40, the four trebles £35.50 and the fourfold £30. The Yankee's combined return is £80.90. The singles add £2.90 for a Lucky 15 return of £83.80.
Subtract the whole purchase cost to obtain profit: £78.70 for the £2.20 Yankee and £80.80 for the £3 Lucky 15. The extra £2.90 returned by singles produces £2.10 more net profit in this particular all-win case, after their additional 80p cost. These are conditional sums, not estimates of how likely the outcome is.
Every win/loss outcome at those same prices
If A and B win while C and D lose, only AB survives in the Yankee. Its £1.50 return leaves a 70p ticket loss. Lucky 15 adds the A and B singles, returning £2.60 against £3 spent: still a 40p loss. Two successful selections therefore need not cover the full cost.
The table includes all 16 sets of winners. Any selection absent from a row loses. Net means the gross return less the ticket's entire original stake. No voids, price adjustment, promotional uplift, tax, tied result, early settlement or payout limit changes these examples.
| Winners | Yankee return | Yankee net, £2.20 spent | Lucky 15 return | Lucky 15 net, £3 spent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| None | £0.00 | -£2.20 | £0.00 | -£3.00 |
| A | £0.00 | -£2.20 | £0.50 | -£2.50 |
| B | £0.00 | -£2.20 | £0.60 | -£2.40 |
| C | £0.00 | -£2.20 | £0.80 | -£2.20 |
| D | £0.00 | -£2.20 | £1.00 | -£2.00 |
| A, B | £1.50 | -£0.70 | £2.60 | -£0.40 |
| A, C | £2.00 | -£0.20 | £3.30 | £0.30 |
| A, D | £2.50 | £0.30 | £4.00 | £1.00 |
| B, C | £2.40 | £0.20 | £3.80 | £0.80 |
| B, D | £3.00 | £0.80 | £4.60 | £1.60 |
| C, D | £4.00 | £1.80 | £5.80 | £2.80 |
| A, B, C | £11.90 | £9.70 | £13.80 | £10.80 |
| A, B, D | £14.50 | £12.30 | £16.60 | £13.60 |
| A, C, D | £18.50 | £16.30 | £20.80 | £17.80 |
| B, C, D | £21.40 | £19.20 | £23.80 | £20.80 |
| A, B, C, D | £80.90 | £78.70 | £83.80 | £80.80 |
Different pairs pay different amounts even when the number of winners is the same. A and C leave the Yankee below its outlay here, while A and D put it above. Counting winners without their accepted prices cannot establish a ticket's profit.
A void changes the affected combinations
Betfair's Fixed Odds Multiples rules reduce combinations containing a void leg; a reduced bet may remain as a single. If D is void, the original ABD line can reduce to AB. The original AB was another funded bet, so identical reduced labels do not justify deleting one of the payments.
Reconcile each purchased line under the applicable rule. Do not replace a four-selection ticket with a fresh three-selection ticket and assume the line count or stake allocation is unchanged. Our accumulator void-leg guide explains the reduction question separately.
Betfair distinguishes these Sportsbook rules from its Exchange rules, excludes Australian Multis from their stated scope and gives conflicting sport-specific rules precedence. Same-game products and related selections also need their own eligibility and settlement terms. Each-way tickets require separate win and place calculations, so the tables above do not price them.
Promotional extras need their own terms
A one-winner bonus, boosted price or refund offer, where advertised, is an extra condition to verify rather than part of the 15-line definition. None is assumed in these sums. For a concrete product boundary, Betfair's general rules exclude permutation multiples such as Yankee and Lucky 15 from Acca Edge eligibility.
Retain any offer's qualifying conditions and acceptance evidence alongside the receipt. Do not add a bonus solely because the ticket is called Lucky 15, or mistake a maximum possible return for the return due after a losing selection. The betting odds guide covers the decimal-price calculation used here.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Yankee return anything with one winner?
In the normal win-only model, one winner cannot complete a Yankee double, treble or fourfold, so nothing returns. A Lucky 15 also buys singles and can pay the successful single. That payment may be much smaller than the 15-unit cost. Voids or specific promotional terms require a separate calculation.
Does a 20p Lucky 15 cost 20p or £3?
If 20p is the amount on each of its 15 bets, the purchase costs £3. A Yankee at that unit costs £2.20 because it funds 11 combinations. Check whether the interface is asking for a component stake or a whole-ticket budget, then compare its confirmed total with the amount debited.
Is Yankee just another name for a fourfold?
No. The fourfold is one combination requiring all four selections to win normally. A Yankee also purchases six doubles and four trebles. Those extra ten bets account for its larger cost and let successful smaller combinations pay even if the fourfold loses. Their returns still need to cover the complete ticket outlay.
Read the total before interpreting the return
Check four selections, 11 or 15 funded lines, the unit on each, and the amount debited. Then sum the settled component returns and subtract the full outlay. If the result differs, preserve the original receipt and the rules for any affected market or promotion before asking the operator for its line-by-line calculation.
These structures do not improve a selection's underlying chance or guarantee profit. All money committed can be lost. The explanation is for adults legally permitted to bet in their location; it is not a recommendation to buy either ticket or treat gambling as income.
